The Kainos School is currently enrolling students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. We will be adding additional grades each year until we reach K-12.
Students are on campus two full days each week (about 7 hours per day). The other three days are spent learning at home in the Satellite Classroom.
As a general rule, your child should expect to spend about an hour outside the classroom for every hour spent inside the classroom, but each child is different based on his or her struggles and strengths.
The University-Model School is recognized as a private school by the DNPE (Department of Non-Public Education). Children enrolled in a UMS are not considered homeschoolers.
Parents are referred to as ‘co-teachers’ in the University-Model. Don’t let this terminology scare you! Professional educators will do all of the lesson-planning, preparation, and curriculum instruction. Your role as the co-teacher is best described as ‘private tutor’ in the elementary grades. You will help your child with work assigned and explained by the teacher, tutoring him in areas that may be more difficult for him. In junior high your role will become more of a ‘guide’, progressing to ‘course monitor’ in senior high. The goal of the UM is spiritual and academic independence, so your direct involvement will gradually decrease over time.
We do not have chapel. Our classes have morning devotionals with their teacher to start off the day. Grades 3rd-6th have weekly Biblical Formations.
We are non-covenantal, meaning you do not have to agree with our statement of faith to attend. But there does need to be an understanding that everything The Kainos School does is centered around our vision and mission statements, which is the culture of our school. As a school and staff we affirm the Apostle's & Nicene Creeds, the Baptist Faith, and Message 2000, and Nashville Statement on marriage and sexuality.
Elementary classes have 12-13 students.
Teachers can sign out Chromebooks and iPads for students to use in class. Students use their assigned Google accounts with filtering and monitoring while at school.
IEPs are handled on a case-by-case basis. We consider the child, what they need to thrive in a learning environment, and the well-being of the entire class. If you have a specific IEP question, please reach out.
The Kainos School does not provide speech therapy, buddies, or one on one intervention.
We are accredited through Cognia.
While we deeply value the local church and plan to partner with many across our community, The Kainos School will operate as a totally separate entity. We are not tied to any one church or denomination.
